Abstract

18,715. Siemens Bros. Dynamo Works, [Siemens-Schuckertwerke Ges.]. Sept. 7. Distributing.-To obtain constant potential and to avoid the setting-up of equalizing currents between alternating current generators working in parallel, assuming that the power factor of the load is constant for considerable intervals of time, the regulation is effected by means of relays having two distinct windings carrying currents proportional respectively to the generator current and terminal pressure, and an adjustable phase converter is connected in circuit with one of these windings. In a three-phase arrangement, Fig. 1, the field magnet windings e<1>, e' of the generators I, II are fed by continuous-current machines g<1>, g<2>, in the armature circuits of which are arranged resistance switches a' rotated in one or the other direction by auxiliary motors m having two separate exciting windings m<1>, m' controlled by relays r<1>. Each relay r<1> has a current winding z<1> fed by a series transformer t<1>, and a potential winding s' fed by the secondary winding of a rotary phaseconverter u<1>, the primary of which lies across the generator terminals. By adjusting the handle k, the current in the coil s<1> may be given any desired phase relation with respect to the potential of the mains, so that the effective ampere-turns on the relay r<1> may be varied. The phase-converter u<1> may be placed in circuit with the coil z<1>, the winding s<1> being then connected directly across two of the generator terminals, and, in place of the motor m and the switch a', either of the generators I, II may have its field-magnet circuits controlled by a quick-acting regulator, such, for example, as that described in Specification No. 14,725, A.D. 1907. The arrangement described above should be supplemented-by a bell signal or the like, so that the phase converter u<1> may be adjusted if the power factor of the circuit should vary.
