Abstract

Rearing-appliances.-A hover for chicks is fitted with a heating-lamp surrounded by an imperforate guard extending nearly to the roof and forming an inlet for warmed air constituting the sole heating means for the hover chamber. The lamp 12 is supported in an opening 11 in the floor of the hover chamber and is attached to a fume chamber 15, which may have a central tube to increase its heating surface and which connects with the flue 16. Air enters the hover chamber by the annular passage 26 formed between the chamber 15 and the guard 25 surrounding the aperture 11, to which air passes beneath the floor from inlets 36. The lamp &c. may be attached to a removable portion 17 of the roof of the hover and the remainder of the roof is mounted on hinges 5 so that either part may be removed separately, the joint between the parts being sealed by a flexible pad 19. The roof may be packed with sawdust &c., and the portion 17 lined with asbestos 18. A thermostatic damper 29 closing a ventilating-aperture, and a thermometer 41 are provided. A curtain 9 encloses the hover chamber, and a second inner curtain and a guard 42 may be fitted to exclude draught. Specifications 15429/88 and 18715/06 are referred to.
