Abstract

16,829. Friend, G. H. Aug. 10. Pedals.-In cycle-pedal foot-grip devices of the type in which the rider's shoe is provided with metal plates adapted to engage the pedal, the edges of the shoe plates are bevelled or recessed so that they can be simultaneously engaged under turnedover edges or flanges of both pedal plates by a lateral movement of the foot. The pedals are made with flanges or engaging surfaces c, c<1>, which are recessed or bevelled at d, d'. Plates e, e', provided with projections f, f<1> or equivalent means for engaging the bevels d, d<1>, are attached to the rider's shoe ; both the plates and the bevels may be made to converge in any suitable manner. The parts e, e<1> may be formed on a single plate, or may be made integral with the sole of the shoe, and a thickening g<1> may be provided to allow of easy walking. Tightness of grip may be aided by springs, elastic material, leather, &c., or by corrugating one or more of the engaging surfaces.
