Abstract

16,091. Mueller, O. H. July 29. Elastic-fluid turbines.-A counter-current condenser A, into which the steam enters at the top, comprises an inner condensing casing B, around the outside of which the steam passes and into which the steam enters from the bottom. The casing B is provided with a series of annular perforated water-troughs C, so arranged as to cause the steam to traverse a zig-zag path which narrows as the steam is reduced in bulk by condensation. This construction allows the arrangement of the port E for the entry of condensing water, the port G for the discharge of water of condensation, and the port J leading to the air-pump, in the base of the condenser and thus out of contact with the uncondensed steam. A double cover D prevents transfer of heat from the steam to the air and uncondensed vapour on their way to the air-pump suction J.
