Motor road vehicles.-A speedometer driven by the road wheel of a motor road vehicle is adapted to control automatically the supply of motive fluid to the engine through an adjustable connexion under lock and key between the speedometer and the valve. In the form of speedometer and controlling-device shown in Fig. 2 and also in the enlarged view Fig. 3, the valve is arranged on the pipe connecting the fuel tank to the carburettor, while the indicator is arranged in front of the dash-board. A centrifugal governor driven through worm gearing from a flexible shaft 15 adjusts vertically, according to the speed, a spindle 22, the upper end of which carries a pointer 11, while the lower end controls a sliding valve 32 having openings 36, 37, 38. The lifting of this valve by the governor cuts off the fuel supply. The connexion between the valve 32 and the member 26 attached to the lower end of the rod 22 is adjustable so as to vary the limit of speed, this connexion comprising a shank 29 inserted in a socket in the valve and held by a screw 31. The casing covering this connexion is closed by a locked door 42. In another form of speedometer an extension of the pointer actuates an adjustable pin in a sector connected by a chain to the valve.
