Abstract
13,130. Sykes, W. R., and Sykes Interlocking Signal Co., W. R. June 19. Switches.-In operating a semaphore signal or set of points by a motor (usually an electric motor) through a drum connected to the signal or points and driven by the motor or released therefrom by a friction clutch arrangement, a switch lever 39, Fig. 1, pivoted at 38, is tilted by an arm 32 when the drum has rotated through the necessary angular distance, and breaks the motor circuit between the metal rollers 34, 35, 36, which are rotatably mounted on studs. In the arrangement adopted for operating points, the reversible motor and drum are mounted to rotate about a vertical axis, and two spring clutching-members encircle the drum, one for each direction of rotation. A radius arm on the drum tilts a pivoted lever switch 81, Fig. 8, at each end of its semicircular movement, and breaks the motor circuit between pivoted metal rollers 76, 77, 78. The circuit arrangements for the point operation comprise a source of power 87, Fig. 9, connected through switches 88, 88<#> to separate motor field windings 89, 89<#> respectively through the metalroller contact arrangements 76, 77, 78, 76<#>, 77<#>, 78<#>, and then through the motor armature winding 90 and the clutching-magnet 72 back to the source 87. A sliding bar or other hand-lever arrangement closes one or other of the switch contacts 88, 88<#>, to operate the motor and move the points in either direction.
