Abstract

9500. Roux, F. A. May 14, 1907, [date applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. Lithographic stone substitutes.-A metal plate suitable for relief, plate, or planographic printing is produced by coating a plate of metal, for example zinc, with a thin layer of another metal, such as copper, and producing over the whole surface of the plate a stipple or chequer of small cavities by means of an engraved matrix. The plate is then polished smooth, leaving a surface of zinc and copper points. The plate thus formed may be engraved or have a design in acid-resisting ink transferred to or otherwise produced on its surface, the plate being then finally subjected to the action of dilute acid. The plate may be used for photoengraving. The Specification in the original form, as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a), comprises also a modification in which the zinc plate is stippled before being coated with copper ; this subject-matter does not appear in the Complete Specification as accepted.
