Abstract

8316. Fox, C. J. April 14. Cigarette-making machines.-Tobacco is distributed on to the feeding- apron of a cigarette-making machine by means of two or more endless spiked belts, bands, chains, &c., and picker and baffle rolls. The spiked belts &c. B, B' are mounted and arranged below a trough L in the manner shown in Fig. 3, the angle of inclination 'being adjustable by means of screws which cause the rollers D, D' to recede from or approach each other. Picker rolls G, G', rotating in the direction shown by the arrows, are mounted adjacent to the belts in the position shown and distribute the tobacco on to the feeding-apron A. Spiked baffle rolls I, I' are arranged adjacent to the picker rolls and rotate in the opposite direction thereto. The spiked belts may consist of chains, the links of which carry cross-bars prodded with rows of pins B<x>. The speed of the feeding-apron A may be varied by means of the friction disks S, T, the latter of which is mounted on a shaft T' and controlled by a screwed rod U. The spiked belt, picker rolls, and baffle rolls are driven by worm-wheels, sprocket chains P, and the crossed belt J respectively.
