Abstract
7593. Byng, E. G., and Gunner, C. E. April 6. Supporting lamps.-A water-tight holder for bayonet - capped lamps is constructed so that with the lamp in position no metal parts are exposed. In the form shown, a sleeve D, Fig. 5, of insulating-material fits over a rubber washer M round the cylindrical part B of an insulating- base A, encasing terminals C. Projections F on the sleeve engage under studs E, which can be rotated to facilitate the removal of the sleeve. The sleeve D has vertical grooves or slots H, and inclined ledges T provided with notches to take the pins on the lamp cap and thereby compress a rubber washer between the sleeve and the bulb. The base A is recessed underneath to take a cable X, Fig. 13, which is connected to the terminals C by screws P, separated by an insulating-piece Q, and is secured to the holder by binding-wires passing through holes in the base, as shown. The recess is finally filled in with a seating-material. A number of lamps may be supported in this manner, at equal intervals, on a cable suspended from each end; this construction allows any lamp with its sleeve D to be disconnected while the base A remains fixed to the cable. In another form, the holder is constructed in one piece.
