Abstract
5945. Bradshaw, R. W. March 17. Levels; levelling-staves.-The levels h, which is adjusted by a worm and pinion i, j, is maintained at a known height from the ground by a rod e, which works in a socket d of a tripod stand. Two legs a of the tripod are hinged to swivel in the plane of the level, while the third leg b swivels at right-angles thereto. The staff is formed in two slidable portions k, l both graduated downwards. The height of the part k is equal to the height of the level from the ground, so that when the staff is adjusted until the T-head coincides with the cross-hairs of the level, the rise or fall is given in direct measurement.
