Abstract

5198. Miele, C. March 7. Separating liquids from solides.-A uniform metallic coating is applied to metal articles by immersing them in a bath of the molten coating metal and then removing the excess of metal by submitting the articles to centrifugal action. The method is stated to be particularly useful for coating screw-threaded bolts and nuts, and small articles such as pins. A suitable apparatus is shown in Fig. 1. A rotatable shaft i carries at its upper end a diskj having vertical rods c fixed to its periphery and adapted to retain a vessel a provided with perforated sides and bottom and a cover not shown. The articles, after the usual treatment with acids, are placed in the vessel a and immersed in the coating bath. The vessel is then removed from the bath, and placed on the disks and rotated rapidly, when superfluous metal is thrown on to the sides of the receptacle d. A heating jacket f may surround the receptacle d and metal run off by an outlet pipe e. The rotating vessel may be arranged horizontally. In a modification, the shaft i has a conical upper end engaging a conical hole at the bottom of the vessel a. The coating oo already coated articles may be uniformly distributed by heating the articles and then submitting them to centrifugal action.
