Abstract

1336. Garrett, F., and Schmach, E. Jan. 20. Traction engines. -Relates to appliances providing means whereby the driver of a traction engine may lock the differential g e a r without leaving the footplate. Fig. 1 shows a section through the differential gearing. The driving spurwheel c carries a loose ring a operated by a lever l, which can be locked in either of two positions. When in the position shown, projections d on the ring a engage with notches in bevelpinions h carried by the spur-wheel, and prevent the pinions from rotating. The bevel-wheels. i, i<1>, which are connected to the road wheels and gear with the bevel - pinions, can thus be still rotated together by the spur-wheel and pinions, but are prevented from independent rotation.
