Advertising.-In apparatus of the type in which a series of advertisements, mounted on endless chains &c., are automatically and d intermittently brought to the displaying position by means of a continuously running motor, an air-brake or other means is arranged to reduce vibration, and means may be provided for extinguishing the lights when changing advertisements. A casing a, Fig. 1, is provided with a semi - transparent mirror - face, and advertisements b, such as photographs, pictures, &c. are mounted on linen &c. placed between two endless pitch-chains c, c<1>, &c. which are arranged vertically at each side of the casing and are in gear with sprocket-wheels d, d<1> attached to shafts e, e<1> carrying rollers k, k<1>. A motor is geared to the shaft g by toothed gearing h, and drives the roller k indirectly through a wormdrive i, j. A flat spiral spring l, interposed between the wheel m, which gears with the pinion n, and the top roller k, is wound up, the roller k being prevented from rotating by a spring-pressed lever 0. The tooth p automatically trips the lever o at regular intervals, and so allows the spring l to uncoil and cause the roller k to revolve. To prevent shock to the mechanism, an air-brake cylinder r, with regulating-taps v, v<1> and a piston s, attached to an eccentric t. Lamps q are arranged to be extinguished each time the stop-lever o is tripped.
