Abstract
792. Fauber, W. H. Jan. 15, 1907, [date appliedfor under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. Hulls.-Hydroplane vessels are fitted with a dependent keel 11, to the lower end of which is attached a tubular hydroplane member 13, having the underside, both fore and aft, cut away obliquely. Inclined edges 34 give the hydroplane member a pen - pointed shape, which decreases the skin resistance and the liability to collect foreign substances in shallow water. Balancing-rudders 20 are arranged on each side of the hydroplane 13, and are simultaneously operated by levers 22 and turned equally in opposite directions, exerting a torsional effect on the boat, tending to keep it vertical. The levers 22 are either placed within the walls of the hydroplane 13, or fit it closely so as to offer only a small resistance to motion. A flexible blade 19 is fitted at the stern, being fixed at one end, and is operated by a lever 32 to regulate the inclination of the hydroplane or the depth at which it is submerged when under way. Additional fins may be fitted on the sides of the hydroplane 13, to aid in sustaining the vessel and to act as protecting-guards to the flexible blade 19. The boat is propelled by an ordinary screw propeller 17, and is steered by a rudder 15. Various forms of the hydroplane member 13 are also described.
