Abstract
28,325. Casablancas, F. Dec. 24. Rollers and roller heads ; combined drawing and twisting arrangements; spinning and twisting machines with twisting-arrangements at delivery.-The twist is imparted to the sliver by rotating either the receiving or the delivery rollers about the axis of the sliver, as well as about their own axes as usual, means being provided by which the twist is caused to extend the whole length of the sliver between the receiving and delivery rollers. The twist is temporary or permanent according as the delivery or receiving rollers are given the additional rotation. Figs. 1, 2, and 3 show, diagrammatically, arrangements in which the delivery rollers e are rotated about the axis of the sliver h for giving to it a temporary twist. In the arrangements shown in Figs. 2 and 3, a porcupine roller c is employed as shown, for the purpose of exerting a combing- action on the sliver, and in that shown in Fig. 3, an auxiliary pair of rollers g is employed for the purpose of causing the sliver to engage properly with the teeth of the porcupine roller c. Fig. 4 shows, diagrammatically, the arrangement employed when the receiving-rollers a are rotated about the axis of the sliver, the ball of the sliver h' being in this case drawn from a receptacle v, which rotates with the rollers a. Fig. 5 shows the method of mounting and driving the delivery rollers. The rollers e are carried near the mouth of a ring k, which is mounted on a second ring b having teeth b<1> on its upper edge for engaging with corresponding teeth on the axles of the rollers. Both rings are sufficiently large to allow the hand to be introduced for the purpose of cleaning them and for arranging the sliver, and are provided with teeth s<1>, d', or other arrangements by which they may be driven independently of one another. They may be mounted on ball bearings, as shown. The rollers are pressed together by bow springs u, the strength of which is regulated by screws x, and flexible bow springs or brushes t are provided to prevent the sliver from adhering to the rollers. The whole is provided with a cover o, as shown. Similar mechanism is provided in the case of the receiving-rollers, except that in this case the parts are arranged in an inverted position, the rollers being mounted at the lower ends of the rings corresponding to b, k.
