Abstract

27,714. Audris, O. Dec. 16. Glass furnaces.-A tank melting-furnace for the manufacture of opaline and like glass is heated by the combustion of gas from the generator B, and air which has been passed through beating- flues F, G beneath the tank and in the side walls of the generator. The air is supplied through ports C, D. The glass-making materials are delivered from the hopper I on to an inclined plate J, where they are exposed to the direct action of the flame, and from which they run, when melted, into the tank. The refined glass is drawn off through mouths M. Different kinds of glass may be drawn off at the mouths by the addition of suitable materials. A float L is provided to prevent unmelted materials from passing into the drawing compartment.
