Abstract
27,396. Sonnenthal, G., and Lord, A. Dec. 11. Drilling; milling.-The change gears ordinarily employed for feeding the tool spindle in radial drilling-machines are rendered available for giving the carriage a selfacting traverse for milling and slot drilling. Automatic reversing-means for the carriage are also provided. The spindle B is driven by change gearing from the tool spindle A, and carries a worm B<1>, to which it may be clutched, and from which the vertical feeding-pinion B<3> is driven. The spindle B also carries spur-wheel from which a supplemental shaft C is driven. The shaft C drives; through reversing bevel - pinions F, F<1>, F' and spiral gear C<4>, a shaft, at the end of which is a wheel E<2> engaging a rack E3 on the radial arm, and from which the traversing motion is obtained. The ;reversing-means consists of a dial G, carrying adjustable stops G', G' and driven by a pinion G<4> engaged by the rack E<3>. The stops engage an arm of the clutch-operating lever C<2>, a spring-pressed conical bolt H<3> assisting the movement. The feed of the tool may be obtained from wheels I<6>, K operated by a ratchet wheel actuated by stops I<1>, I<2> and a pawl-lever I.
