26,179. Le Tall, F. W., [Lederer, A.]. Nov. 26. Working by unclassified operations. - Hollow electric-lamp filaments of tungsten or molybdenum, or a mixture of these metals, are made by depositing the metal on carbon filaments and removing the carbon by heating to a high temperature in an atmosphere containing nitrogen and optionally a reducing-gas such as hydrogen. The coating may be produced by heating to redness in a mixture of a gaseous halogen or oxyhalogen compound of the metal, a reducing-gas, and nitrogen. The two processes may be simultaneous.
