Abstract

Aluminium, calcium, iron and manganese silicates; aluminium carbide; calcium carbide. - A very fusible double silicate of iron and lime or aluminium is obtained in a process for separating pure chromium from commercial ferro-chromium, by subjecting the ferro-chromium to a very high temperature, in the presence of silicate of lime or aluminium or silica and lime or alumina. An excess of lime or alumina is always present in the charge. The manganese present in the ferrochromium is obtained as a double silicate with lime or aluminium, and the carbon appears as calcium or aluminium carbide.
