Abstract

24,729. Taylor, S. Nov. 8. Brakes.-Railway-wagon and other railway and tramway vehicle brakes are applied by tension rods operated by eccentric slots in a circular disk, which is mounted on a central shaft and actuated by right-handed levers from either side of the vehicle. The eccentrically slotted disk E is mounted beneath the longitudinal axis of the vehicle, and operates rods R, connected to transverse brake beams, by means of roller pins or slide blocks J working in the slots. To ensure a gradual application of pressure, compression springs are inserted in the rods R at H. The disk E is connected by links D to cranks A on transverse shafts L extending halfway across the vehicle, the outward ends of the shafts carrying levers B, by an upward movement of which the brakes are applied. The levers B are locked by pawl bars M pivoted at P, Fig. 5, the bars on opposite sides of the vehicle being connected to move simultaneously. The bars M are held in engagement with teeth on the levers B by springs N, and are released by slotted levers K sliding in the levers B and operated by handles C. It is stated in the Provisional Specification that the shafts L are connected to the central shaft of the disk by chain &c, gearing, one chain being crossed.
