Abstract

24,362. Barber, T. W. Nov. 4. Locomotive railway and tramway vehicles. - To facilitate radial adjustment of the axles in traversing curves, railway and tramway vehicles are mounted on an axle-truck the frame of which is divided into two parts A, B pivoted at C, supported on a middle axle I and end axles D capable of radial movement in guides E in the frame. The central axle I is maintained in a position bisecting the angle between the frames A, B, and so radial to the rails, by links K, Figs. 1 and 4, connected to the frames A, B and to an H-frame T which carries the axle-boxes of the central axle, and these axle-boxes are connected by equal links O to the end axle-boxes, whereby the end axles are also constrained to set themselves radially. The vehicle body is mounted on pivots R and roller bearings at S. The position of the central axle may alternatively be controlled by a pinion L, Fig. 3, mounted freely on the axle-box guides and engaging racks M, N formed on the frames A, B ; or arms K, Fig. 2, on these frames may be pivoted to bosses K<1> pivoted on the axle-box guides.
