Abstract

23,995. Dobbs, W. C. Oct. 30. Tyres, elastic other than pneumatic; building wheels.-A set of helical springs, preferably three side by side, is wound helically to form an inner layer, upon which is wound in an opposite direction a similar set crossing obliquely so that the spires interlock as described in Specification No. 1839, A.D. 1907. The tyre may be used internally in combination with that in the abovementioned Specification, and is secured to the rim, Fig. 1, by plates c with that concaved and screwed shanks d'. Two or more such tubes may be combined, and there may be intermediate fillings or envelopes of rubber or leather. The mandrel on which the springs are wound consists of notched and rounded strips h, Fig. 3, resting upon a removable hexagonal core g, which is journaled and rotated. After removal of the mandrel, the ends of the tube are joined together upon a short mandrel, which is removed by temporarily opening the springs.
