Abstract

23,615. Clifton, E., and Wells, A. E. Oct. 25. Colour photography.-In the three-colour printing process in which colour components such as carbon prints are superposed, the individual components are modified according to requirement by local dyeing and retouching. This is done under the guidance of telescopic inspection while the points are temporarily superposed in register while on their temporary supports. The use of the telescope obviates difficulties that would otherwise be caused by the intervening thicknesses of the glass or other temporary supports. Several suitable dyes are enumerated. A composite adjusting or registering frame with grooved partitions for the components is used. In the telescopic axis, reflectors may be used for shortening or folding the range, or for bringing the eyepiece in close proximity to the registering frame, whereby the observer may have the adjusting-handles of the frame immediately before him. For the final support, a thin translucent paper or film of celluloid coated with gelatine is preferably used. While this support with the components is still on the temporary rigid glass support, it may be backed up with one thickness of paper or more to form a thin or thick support, as in carbon printing. To facilitate registering the constituent parts of the composite heliochrome, two objective crosses or more, or the equivalent, are adjusted on a white disk in the scene so that the images of the cross lines come conveniently to the margins or corners of the negative plate. Specification No. 7188, A.D. 1895, is referred to.
