Abstract

23,396. Barber, T. W. Oct. 23. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Kinematographs. - Relates to kinematographic apparatus for photographing and exhibiting views of either the entire horizon or any desired angle of it. The film-driving mechanism and the means of illumination may be of any known type, but the lenses are arranged so that two or three sections of the horizon, each including from 36 to 45 degrees, may be photographed side by side on a single film. One arrangement is shown in Fig. 4. In this there are three lenses 8, 9, 10 and prisms 13,14, the latter for deflecting the rays of light passing through the lenses 8, 10 so that the outer pictures may be sharply defined on the film 11. The film, however, may be bent by rollers 12, Fig. 5, so as to bring the different parts of it into planes parallel to their respective lenses. In other modifications, the prisms are placed in front of a single lens, and, when the picture is in two sections, two lenses and two prisms, or one lens and two prisms, are used. For projection, the same apparatus is fitted with a condensing-lens 20 and a source of light 19, the pictures being projected on to a circular screen 4, Fig. 2. To enable the segments to be correctly joined up, the prisms and lenses are fitted with adjusting-screws 17, 18, but the result may be attained by allowing the segments to overlap slightly and then cutting off the overlap by a strip placed in front of the lens. When more than onethird of the horizon is to be photographed, the above apparatus is duplicated or triplicated and the films caused to be driven simultaneously. When used for projection, they are arranged radially round a central light. The audience may sit in an imitation carriage 5.
