Abstract
23,129. Simpson, C. C. W. Oct. 19. Brakes.-Relates to an eitherside brake operated by means of a wedge as described in Specification No. 8777, A.D. 1906, and so arranged that, while the pair of brake blocks can be put on by either of the brake handles, they can only be released again by moving the handle by wbich they had previously been put on. A depending iron plate A has angle-iron grooves B on each side between which slide wedges C, C<1>. Each wedge carries projecting lugs D, D', and the brake handle E on one side of the vehicle engages between the lugs of one of the wedges, while a crank-arm F on a rock-shaft G operated by the handle H on the other side of the vehicle engages between the lugs on the other wedge, The brake rods H<1> are forked at the ends I to pass on both sides of the plate A, and abut against the wedges C, C<1>, so that depression of the wedges C or C<1> by the handles E or H respectively applies the brakes. The plate A may be dispensed with.
