Abstract

22,721. Hillyer, E. C. Oct. 15. Scoring and marking.-A bridge marker consists of two sets of three concentric disks which may be rotated in a frame separately or some of them together so as to show the number of tricks, the total number of tricks and honours won by each side, and the difference between the two totals. In addition, the number of games played is also shown. On each side of a partition D, Fig. 2, a rotating disk F is provided, having holes marked with even numbers from 2 to 98, Fig. 1. The numbers appear at a slot 3 in the casing and the holes appear through a long slot 2 which is marked with corresponding numbers. Thus, if ten tricks are won, a pencil is inserted in a hole corresponding to ten on the casing and the disk is worked round till 10 shows at the slot 3. The disk has a lug 4 placed so that as 30 is shown at the slot 3 a lever L is actuated to show one game. Only one game need be shown since two decide a rubber. Underneath the disk F is a second disk H provided with one set of holes 9 coinciding with the holes in the disk F, and a second set 10 which are similarly numbered to those on the disk F and coincide with a long slot marked 'Honors' in the casing. The numbers on this second disk denote the total score and are shown at a slot similar to the slot 3. The disks are moved together when tricks are registered, but only the lower one when honours are marked. When the total score exceeds ninety - eight, a numbered wheel K is moved by a lug 13 on the total score disk to show 1 at a hundreds slot. The 'trick' disk can always be moved back independently to zero to record fresh tricks. A third disk I has one set of holes similar to those in F and a second set similar to the set 10 of the 'honour' disk, and thus would record the same as that disk were it not that it is connected by a stud 18, Fig. 2, with a similar third disk on the other side of the partition D. The disk I is moved forwards by one set of players and backwards by the other. A stud 20, Fig. 1, operates wheels M half open and half solid, so that a blank is shown in a slot on the losing side and the difference score on the winning side. The disks F are returned to zero by pinions 32, Fig. 2, a stop consisting of a pin and a spring which can pass it only in one direction being used. The disks H and wheels are similarly returned to zero by pinions 33 &c. The disks I are returned by making the difference 0.
