Abstract

22,607. Baggaley, A. Feb. 23, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Car ventilators.-Relates to a sheet-metal ventilator placed above the lamp in a railway car or stationary structure. A cylinder C having a perforated top E<2> fits over a tube B, which is fixed in the roof of the car and is provided with a flanged ring F into which the top G of the lamp fits. A flanged cover E<1>, arranged above the perforated top E<2>, is connected to the cylinder by two semicircular, curved deflecting-plates E<4> having apertures E<6> between, their ends through which the gases from above the lamp pass out into the atmosphere. Circular outer and. inner deflectors D<2>, D' are secured to the cylinder C opposite perforations C' in the cylinder and tube. The deflectors D<2>, D' are connected by two semicircular, curved deflecting-plates, D<3> having apertures D<5> between their ends through which the air from the interior of the car passes. The ventilator is arranged with the apertures D<5>, E<6> at right-angles to the length of the car so that the curved deflectors D<3>, E<4> direct an air current past the apertures, thus increasing. the upward draught and preventing the entrance of cinders and dust. When fitted to stationary structures, the positionof the ventilator is adjusted to suit the direction of the prevailing winds. The ring F may be dispensed with where the lighting system produces no smoke. In modified forms, one or several ducts D, E may be arranged on the cylinder, and the deflecting-plates D<3>, E<4> may each consist of two straight parts meeting at an angle. The Specification in the original form, as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a), comprises also a form in which the outer deflector D<2> is cut to the shape of the deflecting-plates D<3>; this subject-matter does not appear in the Complete Specification as accepted.
