Abstract
22,198. Watson, W. L. Oct. 8. Insoles. - A damp-proof material for use in making insoles for boots and shoes, tents, groundsheets, water hose, ships' lining, &c. is made by coating cotton canvas or other fabric on one or both sides with a mixture containing about equal parts of rubber, pitch, and pure bitumen, with about 18 per cent of lime. The proportions may be varied. These materials are fluxed in the usual manner with oils to a semi-fluid condition, and the mass is then oxidized. When the mixture has cooled sufficiently, the treated canvas &c. is passed through smoothing-rollers to give it a finished appearance.
