Abstract
19,141. Czell, H. Aug. 26. Water-waste preventers.-To prevent bursting by frost, the cistern, the flush pipe, and the contiguous part of the supply pipe are kept normally empty. When the seat is depressed, the lever 20 turns on its pivot 18 and a rod 17, to which it is connected, is raised. A cock 24 in the supply pipe 5 is thereby turned on by means of a lever 23, and a rod 9, leading to a cock 10, Fig. 7, in the chamber below, is rotated, through bevel-wheels 12, 13, and with it the cock 10. Simultaneously the discharge valve of the cistern, which is attached to the lever 25, is closed. The cistern is thus filled. When the seat is vacated, the cistern is discharged, and the supply cocks 24, 10 are closed ; also, air valves 26 in the pipe 5 are opened allowing the water in the pipe to run off by the pipe 7 into the drain. To provide a continuous service during summer, a by - pass 6 having a valve 29 is connected as shown, Fig. 7, to the pipe 5, the valve 29 being open in summer and closed in winter.
