Abstract
17,718. Deutsche Beck-Bogenlampen- Ges. Aug. 2, 1906, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Means for absorbing mechanical shocks.- In a lamp in which the carbons are brought together by the action of gravity, the core b of a regulating - solenoid a has a lost-motion connexion with the regulating - mechanism, so that upon cessation of the current the core drops on the mechanism, to overcome its frictional resistance. The core b is recessed to receive a head on a rod g connected to the mechanism, and has an end plate which normally engages under the head. On the rod g are two collars, the upper of which h is struck by the core when it falls. The lower collar closes an aperture in a dashpot piston i, except when the rod is descending, so that the separation of the carbons is damped more than their approach. The dash-pot contains air or liquid.
