Abstract

17,617. Carter, C. H. Aug. 1. Telephones; money shoots. - Tolls of various values are inserted in a single slot and afterwards deflected into their proper channels by a separator, so that each produces a distinct signal or series of signals by striking sounding-devices mounted upon a resonant plate. The coin channel plates f, g, which are supported on posts d with intervening felt &c. washers e for deadening sound vibrations, enclose, at the top, a single channel h, which leads to the separator and into which the coins are inserted by a slot i, and below, the separator and two channels separated by a division plate k. The coins roll along the separator j bearing against the inclined rear wall 2, Fig. 10, a fifty-cent coin, say, being diverted through the aperture l, Fig. 8, by the deflector 3, so as to strike the stems of the wire gongs 8, 9, Fig. 1, while the deflector 4 turns a twenty-five cent coin through the aperture m into contact with the gong 9 only. A five-cent piece is diverted through an aperture q, Fig. 1, in the opposite wall of the separator into contact with the lower edge of a bell 10, while a ten-cent piece escapes the deflectors and falls through the end of the separator striking both the top and bottom of the bell producing two signals. The bell and gongs are mounted on a resonant plate b to which is secured the base 14 of the transmitter 15. ' Fraud, preventing.-The deflector 6 turns onecent coins out of the separator, whence they pass direct to the money-box u.
