Type.-A gauge for casting type from type consists of four L-shaped members A, which may be adjusted to form a mould aperture D and may be secured in the adjusted position by screws C working through nuts F and by screws C arranged in slots and provided with nuts E. The letter, ornament, or the like that is to be reproduced is placed in the aperture D, and type metal is poured in through a hollow cap G. The mould thus made and the letter are released from the gauge, and the mould is then replaced in the gauge with the cap underneath and type metal is again poured in to form the reproduced type. According to the Provisional Specification, clips may be used for securing the gauge.
