11,723. Carlson, J. 0. May 18. Thrashing-machines.-The concave of a thrashing- machine is so constructed that a plane or a toothed face can be presented to the drum as required. Attached to the sides of the machine are plates 11 provided with grooves 12 which support a grate 13, a plate 16 with teeth 17, and two intermediate plates 14 perforated with holes 15. Beneath the plates 14 are shafts 19 passing through slots 18 in the sides of the machine and provided with heads 20 moving between guide-blocks 21, 22. The heads 20 are connected by plates 23 provided with teeth 24 corresponding to the holes 15, so that by moving the shafts 19 in the slots 18 a smooth or toothed surface can be presented to the thrashing- drum. This is effected by means of eccentrics 28, Fig. 3, attached to the shafts 19 and placed between cleats 25, 26 on the outside of the machine. The eccentrics are turned by means of square projec. tions 29 thereon, and are held in position by pins 31 passing through the cleat 25 and engaging with holes 30 in the eccentrics. In a modification, the plates 14 are dispensed with, and the heads 20 carry both smooth and toothed plates, either of which can be brought into position by turning the shafts 19 by appropriate levers, the shafts being first lowered as above.
