Abstract

10,151. Pyne, P., [known as Welsford, F.]. May 1. Clubs for games; lawn billiards.-A game of ball is played on a level rectangular court having at each corner a space marked off to serve a purpose analogous to that of the pockets of a billiard table. Three balls are used, and they are struck by a mace designed to enable the various strokes to be made with precision. This mace consists of a shaft a preferably of hickory, to which is attached a metal head f with points about the size of the tip of a billiard cue. The points are each tipped with a piece g of leather or like material attached by a central screw h. The head may be attached to the shaft in any suitable manner, but is preferably driven on and secured by a screw and washer as shown. The handle is bound with leather or string for a length of twelve, inches, thus enabling it to be securely gripped and also to be used for measuring distances of one foot in length.
