Abstract

9629. Gardner [nÚe Brouillet], A. M. May 16, 1906, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Tillers.-The tiller a is loosely mounted on the rudder head and is prolonged beyond it, forming a short arm a<1>. The end of this arm is pivotally attached to the centre of a bar d, which is attached at each of its ends to bellcrank levers e, f, operating the crosshead k of the rudder by blocks i, j working in slides. A pointer l is fitted as shown to indicate the position of the rudder. Should the tiller-chains break, the rudder is swung to one side or the other by the waves, in which position the arms el, f<1>, of the bell-crank levers are normal to the slots in the cross-head k and the gear is locked.
