Abstract

9496. Bleicher, C. April 23. Rail joints.-Relates to the method of making rail joints and of repairing defective places in the t r a c k of railways and tramways in which a portion of the rail head is cut away and replaced by a tread portion of the same section formed on a fish-plate. Two fish-plates b, c, Figs. 1 and 4, are used, the fish-plate b having a central tread portion e and two end portions fitting tightly and directly beneath the rail head, while the fish-plate c fits beneath both the rail head and the tread portion e. One or both fish-plates are provided with ribs h abutting against the web, or, as shown in Fig. 3, the web may be cut away and the ribs made longer. Both forms may have flanges i gripping the rail foot. Similar arrangements apply to bull-headed rails.
