Abstract
6876. Brown, N. S. March 22. Brakes. - In a reeling, warping, or beaming machine having a brake which is applied when the belt-shifting gear is operated to stop the machine, the brake is automatically taken off when the machine is stopped. When the belt-shifting lever D, Fig. 4, is moved to carry the belt from the fast pulley e to the loose pulley, the weight W turns the lever C pivoted at C' and thus applies the band brake B. The inertia of the conical piece H mounted on the shaft G causes it to travel along the groove g after the machine has stopped and to lift the weighted end of the lever C, thus taking off the brake B. The brake is retained in its inoperative position by a pivoted piece K having a tooth k<3> which engages above a slot in a fixed plate. A bent wire k<2> secured to the lever D is arranged to disengage the piece K when the machine is started again. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the band brake B normally is kept out of action by a pin M carried by a bracket M<1>, which is pivoted to the framing m<1> and to the lever T' at m. When the treadle lever T rises, owing to the belt being moved to the loose pulley, the lever T' falls and the pin M allows the brake lever C to apply the brake. At the same time, the link n' turns a bellcrank lever N' arranged to tilt a pivoted frame N carrying a rolling weight W<1>, which causes the frame N to tilt further and to raise the rod n sufficiently to lift the brake-lever C.
