Abstract
6033. Deane, H. A. Oct. 12, Conveyers; elevators. - Comprises apparatus for loading and discharging bananas and like cargoes to and from vessels, or from one point to another. A portable frame is composed of longitudinal members b connected by cross-bars C and provided with brackets c which may also be connected by cross rods d. The frame is formed in two sections hinged together one of which is over the deck of the vessel while the other reaches from the deck to the wharf and is provided with rollers o by which the inclination adjusts itself as the height of the vessel or the water level varies. The deck section of the frame has rollers p by which it may be moved about. The frame carries pulleys f, g, h around which pass endless chains a extending around a pulley in the hold of the vessel. Angle-iron rails n, Fig. 3, guide the chains along the frames. Cranked rods carrying trays k are pivoted to the chains. The apparatus is suspended by ropes j from a derrick and rests on a portable hoisting apparatus on the deck, or may rest on such apparatus at each end or on planks. The apparatus is driven from a pulleys m.
