Abstract

5976. Dellwik, C. March 22, 1906, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901 ]. Roasting and calcining kilns. -In kilns for nodulizing ores, metalliferous residues, &c., or for roasting and calcining cement, the sintering zone is limited to a part near the discharge end by employing a short flame of intense calorific power, the additional heat for the preliminary stage of the operation being supplied by a flame from a lower-grade fuel. As applied to a rotary kiln, water gas and air are delivered to the kiln from ports a, b, respectively, and a cheaper gas, such as blast-furnace gas, Siemens gas, pulverized fuel, &c. is supplied with air from the ports c, d. The gas from the cheaper fuel may be delivered higher up in the kiln, and there may be two kilns, one for the preliminary-heating and the other for the water-gas flame.
