Abstract

4863. Lynde, F. C. Feb. 28. Oil lamps, oil supply to; vapour lamps.-Relates to float-feed valves and to an arrangement of and improvements in the valves described in Specification No. 28,940, A.D. 1906, [Abridgment Class Valves &c.], for supplying liquid, such as petrol, from a reservoir to another vessel, such as a carburettor, in quantities varying according to the consumption of the liquid, the object being to minimize the effect of the variation of the head of liquid in tLe supply reservoir upon the quantity of liquid supplied. For this purpose, two or more float-feed valves are arranged in series between the supply reservoir and the carburettor or the like. Liquid passes from a reservoir A through a pipe E to a float valve in a tank B, and thence through a pipe J to a float valve in a tank C, and finally enters a carburettor D through a pipe K. The pressure within the tanks and carburettor, or either or all of them, may be equalized by means of an air pipe or pipes. The float valve comprises a float F, which is pivoted at R and carries a vessel Y, partly filled with mercury, which is adapted to seal the end of the supply pipe E or J when the float F rises to its limiting position. The vessel Y may be adjusted in height by means of a screw Z. According to the Provisional Specification, the apparatus is applicable for lighting purposes.
