Abstract

28,095. Torr, G. W. Dec. 10. Slipping, preventing, attachments to wheels for.- Metal pieces E, which are pivoted at F in brackets D secured to the underside of the rim and are preferably chisel-shaped at their otfter ends, project a little below the treads, and in normal travelling are yieldingly pressed against the ground by springs I abutting against the brackets D. When side-slipping occurs the pieces tend to take the vertical position shown in dotted lines and bite into the road. The connexion between the spring I and piece E consists of a screwed rod G, of square section, having a bifurcated end G<1> carrying a fixed pin G<2> passing through a curved slot E<1> in the piece E; an auxiliary spring H, which abuts against a fixed collar H<1> and a movable washer H<2>, presses the pin against the inner end of the slot ; it is prevented from leaving the slot by the engagement of a screwpin K with the tail E<2> of the piece E. The wording position of the piece E is-adjusted.by means of a nut J, and the tension of the spring I is adjusted by a nut G<3>. The skid mechanism is enclosed in an annular casing L, holes being provided for -the escape of the liquid mud entering through the slots C<1> in the tread. Wheels with twin tyres have successive pieces E located in opposite directions, those with single tyres having all the pieces in the same direction. The pieces are all of the same size and are therefore interehangeable. According to the Provisional Specification, the pieces may be connected together for successive operation.
