Abstract

26,781. Holmes, P. F., and Howell, H. Nov. 26. Purifiers.-Relates to a construction and arrangement of sliding valves for controlling the flow of gas through purifiers, condensers, and d gas - holders. Fig. 1 shows two slide valves b, c, arranged in a single casing, each valve being adapted to close alternately two ports d, e, f, g. Each valve is provided with a wedge-surface m co - operating with cones n at the top and bottom of the casing to wedge the valves against the seatings. Fig. 9 shows a diagrammatic view of a number of purifiers fitted with the double valves ; as shown by the arrows, the purifier No. III is cut out from the system. As applied to a condenser, as shown in Fig. 11, by reversing the position of the single valve the direction of the flow of gas through the condenser t can be reversed.
