Abstract

26,287. Bailey, W. O. Nov. 20. Surfacing and polishing; bevelling. -The faces of metal mills for grinding and roughpolishing glass, and more particularly for bevelling glass, are formed with deep cross-cuts or recesses filled with a softer metal or with a material of less wear-resisting nature than the mill, to provide automatically shallow furrows along which the fluid abrading-medium supplied to the mill can travel. The cross-cuts or recesses d, which may be in straight or curved lines as shown in Fig. 1, preferably in a more or less tangential direction, are formed in the mill ring c when it is cast, or are cut out subsequently. The mill ring is attached to the disk a which carries it by screws that wear away at the same rate as the material of which the ring is composed. The ring may be formed of malleable cast iron, and the fillings of lead, or of felt, wood, &c. Protecting- rings, as described in Specification No. 4299, A.D. 1906, may be provided.
