Abstract

25,530. Stanley, R. Nov. 12. Roller mills; feeding devices.-Relates to improvements on the process and apparatus for the wet crushing and subseqnent treatment of auriferous quartz and other ores described in Specification No. 24,386, A.D. 1904. The ore is first crushed with water between cushioned steel rolls, to which it is fed by hoppers 41 containing feeding-mechanism such as spiked rollers 34 provided with change-speed gear. The belt sieve 9 to which the crushed material is delivered is submerged in a water trough 29 and may be made to vibrate by causing the ratchet-shaped edges of the carrying chains to press against small rollers 10 fixed to the side of the trough. Instead of the scrapers described in the prior Specification for distributing the material from the commencing rolls to the " finishing " rolls, a hopper 41<a> is used having two inclined shoots 45 leading to the two pairs of rolls and an adjustable baffle-plate 46 and a spray of water 45". On passing through the sieve 9, the material falls upon an horizontal perforated partition 30<a>. In the upper trough are two shafts 19 with beaters 20. As these propel the sands and slimes to the farther end, the sands fall through the partition and are conveyed to a chamber by a worm or worms 17 and thence by a worm elevator 47 to amalgamated plates, or a dryer, or to a conveyer leading to a cyanide plant, tube-mill, or other process. In some cases the trough is divided into spitzkastens, from which the sands are delivered on to a conveyer by means of valves. The slimes are allowed to settle and the water is pumped back to a shower tank 64 placed over the exposed part of the sieve. The sieve passes beneath the trough, where it is washed, the tailings being afterwards reground.
