Abstract

23,455. Neech, J. T., and Brown, J. W. Oct. 23. Sewage and foul waters, treating; straining.- Sewage or other liquid entering the tank d from the sewer or supply pipe h actuates a tipping- bucket i connected by a rod g and lever f to a strainer frame b which is attached to, or forms part of, the discharge pipe a. The strainer is thus oscillated and clogging prevented. With the apparatus shown in Fig. 1, a strainer is formed by parallel sheets of screening-material c, the space between the sheets communicating with the interior of the pipe a. Several strainers are used with the one pipe. Other forms of strainer are shown in Figs. 4 and 7. The pipe a extends through the walls of the tank, and is carried by bearings which may take the form of rollers. The motion of the screens may be obtained from a waterwheel or other power generator. Specification No. 9999, A.D. 1904, is referred to. According to the Provisional Specification, straining - surfaces are kept clean by revolving them quickly beneath the surface of the liquid.
