20,909. Hickok, J. L., and Mackenzie, J. Sept. 20. Filing papers &c.-The back of a loose-leaf binder consists of a plate A having an end plate C, which bears on a plate B having an end plate C<1>. A curved plate D extends along the back and encloses the end plates. Telescopic posts E, E<1> are carried by flanges A<2>, B<2> which are reinforced by strips L, and lugs F are provided for the attachment of the covers. The latter are provided with holes for the reception of the posts, the whole being held together by pins N which pass through both the posts E and lugs F, as shown in Fig. 4. The end plates C, C' have slots G, G<1> and carry racks I, J meshing with pinions K attached to a square-ended rod B, which is turned by means of a key inserted in the opening K<1>. The rack I is cut away on its under surface for the reception of the plate C.
