Abstract

18,922. Burrell, H. Aug. 24. Ships' framing; tanks; decks.-Relates to modifications in the type of cargo - carrying steamers described in Specification No. 2 7 7 0, A.D. 1899. Cantilever webs a, constructed of plates suitably stiffened, are connected by brackets to the sloping bilge tank c, and support the ship's side and upper structure. In conjunction with the webs a, cantilever brackets b, built out from the bulkheads e, support the central portion of the top deck, so that the whole of the ship's structure is supported without the aid of stanchions or beams in the cargo space. The deck plating is pierced by a series of small openings to facilitate the passage of grain into the hold below. When the sloping corner tanks are used in conjunction with ordinary floors, the floor plate is connected to the lower boundary plate by lugs, and the lowest strake of the tank plating is extended beyond this boundary plate so as to cover the end of the floor.
