14,037. Dickson, J. June 19. Rails.-Relates to wheel tracks for motor road vehicles. Fig. 2 shows a cross-section of a track constructed of wood joists a, laid on sleepers f, and bolted together with intermediate distancepieces c, the joists as far as possible being arranged to break joint. Transverse battens d, laid across the joists, are secured in position by the outer members a' and by the guard-rails e, which also keep the car on the track. One only of the tracks may be provided with guard-rails, the other being flat and of extra width to accommodate varying wheel gauges. The tracks shown in Fig. 3 are made of scoria blocks g set in concrete h, the latter being braced together at intervals by tie-rods or expanded metal i embedded in concrete. It is stated in the Provisional Specification that the tracks may be constructed of concrete strengthened in the tread and flanges by expanded metal, the bearing-surface of the tread being sometimes also faced with asphalt, and that, in the track shown in Fig. 2, the battens d may be dispensed with, the joists being laid close together.
