Abstract

11,654. Pearson, M., Shaw, H., and Bradford Dyers' Association. May 18. Stretching.-A roller for stretching and removing creases from fabrics consists of a number of conical drums A, Fig. 2, mounted upon a stationary spindle. The planes of the drums are inclined to the spindle at angles which diminish as the distance of the drum from the middle of the roller increases. The drums are so mounted that one edge of each, the bottom edge in the Figure, is nearer to the corresponding edge of the neighbouring drum than are the opposite edges. Each drum A is bored to the diameter of a spherical hub B, bored in turn to fit the spind'e. To ensure the rotation of each drum, a lug C is cast on the back and is engaged by a pair of lugs D on the front of the next drum. The drums A have cast upon one side a flange E entering loosely into a trough F cast upon the adjacent drum. The spherical hubs B are clamped together and revolve as one upon the spindle. The end drums are rigidly connected by bolts G to a pair of rings H which revolve on spherical hubs I and are grooved to receive rings K, which are fixed to the spindle by bolts L and disks M. Pairs of rollers may be employed, mounted upon swivel bearings and operated by a worm and worm-wheel so as to give variable tension. According to the Provisional Specification, each drum A may be connected to a sleeve or hub on the spindle by a disk of india-rubber cloth or other flexible material.
