Abstract

11,301. Bergmann-Elektricitõts- Werke Akt.-Ges. May 20, 1905, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Armatures; field magnets.-The groups of end conductors of high - speed rotors, especially the field magnets of alternating-current generators, are separated from one another and held in place by flat slotted rings projecting radially beyond the rotor and by bonding-wires, the end conductors resting, in some cases, upon a flange formed upon the ring. At each end of the rotor core, two rings d, e of L-section are fixed to the rotor shaft side by side, the vertical flanges of the rings being slotted to receive each group of end conductors, which are bent round the rings and seated upon the horizontal flanges. An annular end plate f, fixed to the ring e, affords lateral support to the conductors in this ring. If the distribution of the conductors upon the rotor is not uniform, as in the case shown in which the cross-sectional area of the slots varies according to a sine law, the end conductors are so grouped that the space required on either side of the middle vertical flange of the ring e is the same, the end groups a, b resting upon the flange of the ring d, and being separated from the group c, which rests upon the flange of the ring e. Over the conductors is wound a coil of wire g, to form a bond holding the conductors in place. The flanges upon the rings may be dispensed with.
